The international platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential

The internships

In 2009 four pairs of students enrolled in Dutch universities were selected to go on a six month internship to Africa. After an intensive selection procedure eight students were selected. These students received an extensive preparation at WFP headquarters in Rome in September 2009.

Subsequently, they flew in couples to Zambia, Gambia, Madagascar and Tanzania. The internship allows the participants to employ their academical knowledge towards making a substantial impact, where it is most needed.

Beside the satisfaction of effectively helping the hungry, interns experience the complex logistics of providing food in highly volatile and challenging conditions.

By now, the interns have successfully passed their first few months, having met numerous obstacles conditioned by the challenging surroundings - read their blogs

In September 2010 eight students will travel to development countries in Africa, South eastern Asia and Central-America to contribute to these countries and its people. Whether you will be selected as a WFP, Fleet Forum or North Star Alliance, you will in either case feel the satisfaction of effectively helping while experience working in a public-private partnership.

WFP interns experience the complex logistics of providing food in highly volatile and challenging conditions. Fleet Forum interns will be faced with the challenge of working on a project that should improve environmental impact within a country where impact is most needed. North Star Alliance interns will promote health and wellbeing and fight against HIV by working for its network of Wellness Centres.

The programme also has a cultural dimension. Local AIESEC students can help you find your way and make sure you will get to know the country and its people.
